Ask an SLP: A Space for Questions, Guidance, and Next Steps
Sometimes, you don’t need a full evaluation or ongoing therapy. You just need a knowledgeable person to talk things through with.
Maybe you’ve noticed something new about your child’s communication and aren’t sure what it means. Maybe you have questions about AAC, Gestalt Language Processing, or neurodivergence. Or perhaps you’re looking for guidance on navigating school supports, exploring services, or figuring out what to do next.
That’s where Ask an SLP: Consultation & Guidance comes in.
At Growing Together: Speech-Language Therapy, LLC, we know that every child and family has a unique journey. Sometimes, having dedicated time to ask questions, explore concerns, and talk through possibilities can make all the difference.
Ask an SLP is a one-on-one virtual consultation with an experienced pediatric speech-language pathologist, designed to give parents, caregivers, and professionals a space to ask questions, gain perspective, and explore potential next steps.
There’s no set agenda and no need to have everything figured out before you book. Bring what’s on your mind, and we’ll start there.
Who Is Ask an SLP For?
Parents and Caregivers at the Beginning of Their Journey
Have you started noticing differences in your child’s communication, development, regulation, or learning? Are you wondering whether additional support might be helpful, but you’re not sure where to begin?
You don’t have to navigate those questions alone.
A consultation gives you time to talk through what you’re noticing, better understand the information you have, and explore options for moving forward. We can discuss questions you may want to ask, resources worth exploring, and whether an evaluation or additional support might be appropriate.
You don’t need to arrive with a clear plan. Sometimes, simply having a place to start is enough.
Families Looking for Guidance on a Specific Topic
Maybe you have a particular question you’ve been researching, or perhaps you’re looking for another perspective on something you’re seeing at home or school.
Ask an SLP consultations can provide space to discuss topics such as:
Speech and language development
Autism and neurodivergence
Gestalt Language Processing (GLP)
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and multimodal communication
Childhood apraxia of speech
Executive functioning
Regulation and communication
Supporting neurodivergent children at home
Navigating therapy and other services
School supports, 504 Plans, and IEPs
Questions to consider when seeking an evaluation or additional support
Every consultation is tailored to your questions and priorities. We’ll focus on what matters most to you and help you consider practical resources and possible next steps.
Current and Former Growing Together Families
Your child’s needs can change over time, and questions don’t necessarily stop when therapy ends.
If you’re a current or former Growing Together family, Ask an SLP offers an opportunity to check in without committing to ongoing therapy. You might want to share an update, troubleshoot a new challenge, revisit previous recommendations, or talk through how your child’s communication and support needs have evolved.
Sometimes, a little time to reconnect and reflect is exactly what you need.
Fellow Professionals
Ask an SLP isn’t just for families! Speech-language pathologists, educators, therapists, childcare providers, and other professionals are welcome to book a consultation, too.
Use this time to brainstorm a clinical question, discuss a communication profile, explore AAC resources, talk through neuroaffirming practices, or connect with another experienced pediatric SLP.
Whether you’re looking for fresh ideas, additional resources, or a collaborative space to think through a question, the conversation will be guided by your professional goals and areas of interest.
What Happens During an Ask an SLP Consultation?
One of the best parts of Ask an SLP is that there’s no set agenda.
You don’t need to prepare a list of questions or know exactly what you want to discuss. We’ll begin with what’s on your mind and use our time together to explore your questions, consider different perspectives, and identify resources or next steps that may be helpful.
Depending on your needs, our conversation might include:
Talking through a concern or question about your child’s communication
Exploring strategies and resources to support communication at home
Discussing questions to ask a school team or another provider
Considering whether an evaluation or additional services may be appropriate
Reviewing general recommendations or discussing a new challenge
Brainstorming ideas related to AAC, neurodivergence, or neuroaffirming support
The goal is for you to leave feeling more informed, supported, and confident about the options available to you.
What Ask an SLP Is—and Isn’t
Ask an SLP is a collaborative consultation and educational service. Our goal is to help you better understand the information in front of you, consider different perspectives, identify helpful resources, and feel more prepared to determine your next steps.
It is important to know that an Ask an SLP consultation is not a formal speech-language evaluation, diagnosis, or therapy session. Booking a consultation does not establish an ongoing treatment plan or replace the individualized assessment that may be needed to make clinical decisions.
If a comprehensive evaluation or another type of professional support would be more appropriate, we can talk through those options and help you consider where to go next.
You Don’t Have to Have All the Answers
It can be overwhelming to navigate questions about your child’s development, communication, or learning. There is so much information available, and it can be difficult to know which resources to trust, which questions to ask, or what your next step should be.
You don’t have to figure everything out before reaching out.
Sometimes, the question is simply, “I’m not sure what we need. Can I talk this through with someone?” Our answer, “Absolutely.”
At Growing Together, we believe families and professionals deserve a supportive space to ask questions, explore possibilities, and feel empowered to make informed decisions.
