Why Private Pay?

Understanding Our Approach to Speech Therapy

If you’ve started looking for speech therapy for your child, you’ve probably discovered that there’s a lot to consider. Finding the right provider, understanding your options, navigating insurance, and figuring out the financial commitment can feel overwhelming.

One question we hear is: Why choose private-pay speech therapy when I already pay for insurance?

It’s a fair question, and we understand it! Healthcare costs matter, and we want families to feel informed and confident when making decisions about their child’s care.

At Growing Together: Speech-Language Therapy, we’ve chosen a private-pay model because it allows us to provide the individualized, family-centered care we believe children and families deserve. Let’s talk about what that means and why it matters to us.

What Does Private-Pay Speech Therapy Mean?

Private-pay speech therapy means families pay directly for services rather than having the provider bill their insurance company for sessions.

At Growing Together, we are out of network with insurance providers. We provide monthly superbills that families can submit to their insurance companies for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Reimbursement depends on your individual plan, so we always encourage families to contact their insurance company before beginning services.

We know this model requires a financial commitment, and we never take that lightly. Our goal is to be transparent about costs and help families understand their options from the beginning.

So, why have we chosen this approach?

1. Your Child’s Needs Come First

No two children communicate in exactly the same way. Their strengths, interests, personalities, and support needs are unique, and we believe their therapy should reflect that.

Our private-pay model allows us to make clinical recommendations based on your child's individual needs, our professional expertise, and your family's priorities, rather than having insurance authorization requirements or visit limits determine the plan of care.

This might mean adjusting therapy goals as your child grows, changing the frequency of sessions, or exploring a different approach when something isn't working.

We want your child's care to be guided by what they need—not by what an insurance plan approves.

2. The Relationship Matters

Finding the right speech-language pathologist (SLP) is about more than credentials. It's about finding someone who understands your child, values your family's perspective, and makes you feel like a partner in the process.

At Growing Together, we prioritize building meaningful relationships with the children and families we serve. We take time to learn what motivates your child, what makes them feel comfortable, and how they communicate best.

We also believe families should have a voice in choosing a provider whose experience and approach align with their needs.

When we build trust and work together, we can create a more meaningful therapy experience that evolves alongside your child.

3. Therapy Can Happen Where Life Happens

Communication doesn't happen only at a table in a therapy room. It happens during playtime, mealtimes, getting ready for school, playing with siblings, and spending time with friends.

That's why Growing Together offers in-home and community-based services, along with other options depending on your child's needs and provider availability.

Working in familiar environments can help us understand how your child communicates in everyday situations and collaborate with you on strategies that fit naturally into your routines.

Our goal is to help children build skills that carry beyond their therapy sessions and into the moments that make up daily life.

4. Families Are Part of the Plan

You know your child in ways no one else does. Your observations, concerns, questions, and goals are an important part of the therapy process.

We believe supporting a child also means supporting the people who care for them.

That might look like parent coaching, discussing strategies to try at home, collaborating with teachers, or connecting with other professionals involved in your child's care.

We want you to leave our sessions feeling supported and equipped with ideas you can use in your everyday life—not wondering what you should be doing next.

5. More Flexibility to Focus on Care

Our clinicians bring extensive education, specialized training, and a commitment to continued learning to their work. We want them to have the time and resources to thoughtfully plan sessions, collaborate with families, and continue growing professionally.

A private-pay model reduces the administrative demands associated with insurance billing and authorization, allowing us to devote more attention to the clinical work and relationships at the heart of our practice.

Ultimately, we want our time together to be intentional, individualized, and meaningful.

6. Our Goal Is Meaningful Progress, Not Endless Therapy

One thing we feel strongly about is that therapy should serve a purpose.

We want children to develop communication skills, confidence, self-advocacy, and strategies that support them in their everyday lives. We want families to feel empowered to support their children long after a session ends.

As your child's needs change, their plan of care should change, too. That may mean adjusting goals, reducing the frequency of visits, taking a break from therapy, or celebrating that your child is ready to move forward without ongoing services.

Success isn't measured by how long a child stays in therapy. It's measured by how well we're supporting that child and family along the way.

What About Insurance Reimbursement?

We understand that cost is an important part of this decision, and we want families to have the information they need before getting started.

Although Growing Together does not bill insurance directly, we provide monthly superbills that you can submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

Coverage varies by plan, and reimbursement is not guaranteed. Before beginning services, we encourage you to contact your insurance company to ask about:

  • Whether your plan includes out-of-network speech therapy benefits.

  • Whether a referral or prior authorization is required.

  • Your deductible and any applicable coinsurance.

  • The amount your plan may reimburse for each session.

  • Any limits or requirements that apply to your benefits.

We are happy to help guide you through this process and answer questions about our services so you can make an informed decision for your family.

Is Private-Pay Speech Therapy the Right Fit for Your Family?

Every family has different needs, priorities, and financial circumstances. We recognize that private-pay services aren't the right fit for everyone, and we respect that.

What we can offer is a thoughtful, individualized approach to your child's communication journey—one that values their strengths, honors their unique way of communicating, and recognizes the important role your family plays.

At Growing Together, we want you to feel like you're working with us, not simply bringing your child to an appointment. We want to understand what matters to your family and build a plan that supports your child's growth in meaningful, practical ways.

Let's Talk About Your Child

You don't have to have everything figured out before reaching out. Maybe you have questions about your child's communication. Maybe you're exploring therapy options for the first time. Or maybe you're looking for a provider whose approach feels like a better fit for your family.

We're happy to talk through your questions, explain our services, and help you determine what next steps might make sense.
