Fall Favorites: Book Edition
Books are an incredible resource for our kids- from building vocabulary and concepts, to supporting early narrative skills, and cultivating imagination and creativity (just to name a few). I love using seasonally relevant books during therapy sessions, and always recommend my favorite titles to families.
Reading with your kids not only builds the aforementioned skills, but it’s a great time to engage and bond with your child. Since fall is my favorite season of all, I wanted to share a few classics (Halloween books are in their own category- coming soon!) I offer a few ideas for expanding these titles below- but check out my previous blog post on books for more tips and tricks!
Any of these books lend themselves to incredible thematic vocabulary- pumpkins, apples, leaves, fall…with options to expand using various concepts- colors, sizes, weather, etc. I love pairing books with related activities- whether it’s as big as going to the pumpkin patch, or as simple as spotting leaves out the window.
For example, help your child plan a fall activity- raking and jumping in leaves, making a scarecrow, picking apples, carving a pumpkin, or baking a pie! Build their participation in these activities, using rich language throughout.
Stay tuned for some of my Halloween favorites!
Happy Fall!
